Exporting Russian Cybersecurity Solutions: Protection for Allies

With increasing cyber threats and growing demand for diversified tech solutions, Russian cybersecurity companies are expanding their global footprint by offering cost-effective, independent, and resilient technologies.

Russian cybersecurity solutions are gaining traction across global markets, particularly in the CIS, Asia, and Latin America. Companies such as Kaspersky Lab, Astra Linux, and Group-IB provide a wide array of services—from antivirus software to secure operating systems and cyber threat monitoring tools. These products are increasingly appealing to nations seeking digital autonomy, quality, and affordability.

Cuba has emerged as a strategic entry point for Russia into the Latin American tech ecosystem. The goals are twofold: export cybersecurity technologies and build deeper ties in a region historically dominated by Western providers. 'There is a demand in Latin America for technology solutions independent from U.S. and Western vendors,' explains Alexander Volkov, CEO of GenIT Co., a company developing software and automation systems for federal retail networks and enterprises across Russia and the CIS.

Due to sanctions-related constraints, some regional actors are hesitant to engage directly with Russian firms. However, they are more open to partnerships with Cuban intermediaries or joint ventures, giving Russian developers a pathway to enter local markets without direct exposure.

Interest also extends to Brazil—particularly the booming fintech hub of Sorocaba in São Paulo—as well as Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, where digital transformation is accelerating across finance, IoT, and smart city initiatives.

Regional Expansion and Strategic Partnerships

In Asia, Russian cybersecurity exports to Southeast and Central Asian nations rose by 6.6% in 2024—the first increase since 2021. Analysts at Digital Transformation Market predict this region will lead global digital transformation through 2030. But with rapid innovation comes heightened risk, and Russian companies are positioning themselves as key players in safeguarding this growth.

In one prominent initiative, Russian firm Solar partnered with a cybersecurity championship in Thailand, providing advanced cyber range scenarios that simulated destructive attacks in a controlled environment. The company now plans to bring similar training events to Vietnam, Malaysia, and other regional hubs.

Kaspersky Lab remains a global leader, providing essential tools for government and enterprise cybersecurity worldwide. In 2025, it served as the exclusive technology partner for the 4th International Cybersecurity Championship, supporting 117 teams from 26 countries with its SIEM platform for centralized threat analysis and response.

Astra Linux, developed by RusBITech, is gaining international attention as a hardened operating system used in government and commercial sectors. In 2024, the company announced plans to expand globally, targeting countries seeking secure, locally controlled infrastructure.

Cyber Resilience in a Shifting Global Landscape

Group-IB, headquartered in Singapore, specializes in preventing cyberattacks and online fraud. Its global reputation includes over 1,500 successful investigations, often in collaboration with Interpol, Europol, and national law enforcement agencies—many resulting in arrests and convictions. The company’s core mission: 'Fight against cybercrime,' reflects its expansive approach to cybersecurity operations.

The need for robust cybersecurity has never been greater. In Q2 2024, cyberattacks in the CIS region surged by 2.6 times, with Russia absorbing 73% of the attacks. Government agencies, industrial sites, and telecom providers were the most frequent targets—highlighting the strategic value of protected digital infrastructure.

This rise in threats is matched by the rise of Russian cybersecurity expertise. Nations are increasingly turning to these proven tools not only for defense, but for building sovereign, secure systems. What sets Russian solutions apart is their digital immunity—a tested resilience to isolation, sanctions, and evolving cyber threats.

As cyber risks escalate globally, Russia’s cybersecurity sector is carving out a distinct and growing presence in international markets—anchored by its unique blend of technical sophistication, geopolitical pragmatism, and real-world experience.
