Technoparks as Innovation Catalysts
Innovation is a core driver of economic growth, and Russia is investing in 'tech valleys'—multi-use campuses that support startups, research, and commercialization. Leading examples include Skolkovo and Innopolis, with newer hubs now emerging across the country.
These technoparks provide physical infrastructure such as labs and offices, alongside full ecosystem support: legal services, access to funding, mentorship, education, and market integration. At Skolkovo, over 3,500 residents operate in six domains: energy efficiency, nuclear tech, biomedical research, IT, aerospace, and transportation. More than 400 innovation events are held annually.
Innopolis in Tatarstan is Russia’s first purpose-built tech city, combining a university, business hub, and research park. The campus trains specialists in AI, robotics, and cybersecurity while housing companies testing new solutions.
Successful Startups and Global Reach
Firms born in these hubs are finding traction globally. Skolkovo-based Neurodata developed emotion-recognition voice algorithms used by banks and call centers to enhance service and detect fraud.

Promobot, launched in Innopolis, now exports service robots to more than 40 countries for use in malls, hospitals, and hotels. Skolkovo’s 'Exporters 2.0' program supports global expansion through marketing and legal support.
Exporting Knowledge and Building Bridges
Russia’s national strategy now treats knowledge export as a growth vector. Delegations regularly attend global events such as Slush (Finland) and CES (USA), showcasing innovations and securing deals.
Organizations like the Skolkovo Foundation and the Russian Direct Investment Fund back companies with financial and legal tools to support global expansion—especially in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, where digital, health, and education solutions are in high demand.

Collaboration agreements signed with institutions in these regions promote bilateral knowledge sharing and joint development.
Long-Term Global Ambitions
Innopolis has partnered with the University of Malaysia on quantum computing and electronics. Such ventures not only advance scientific cooperation, but also raise Russia’s international tech profile.
More technoparks are opening in Novosibirsk, Kazan, and Yekaterinburg—decentralizing innovation and bringing scientific advancement to more regions.
