In Russia, In-Flight Internet Could Arrive on Commercial Airlines
Aircraft designs may need to be modified to meet new requirements for onboard internet connectivity.

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya, is in talks with aircraft manufacturers about equipping passenger planes with internet terminals, Dmitry Yadrov, the agency’s head, told TASS.
He explained that providing passengers with onboard internet access would require installing specialized terminals on aircraft. Because these terminals must meet a number of technical and safety requirements, aircraft designs may need to be modified to accommodate the new equipment.
Advanced Technologies in Air Travel
The terminal for accessing satellite internet from aircraft is being developed by the Russian space company Bureau 1440. The company said that key Russian aircraft manufacturers would be involved in integrating the terminal into airframes. In parallel, a cooperation agreement has been signed with Aeroflot focused on the development of digital services.
Earlier, Aeroflot CEO Sergei Aleksandrovsky officially announced plans to introduce onboard internet access during the Digital Transportation forum.
