Rosatom plans to launch an AI-driven system for discovering new structural materials in 2026. The platform is intended to create a continuous workflow that moves directly from AI-based property calculations to physical prototype samples for testing. According to project leaders, the initiative is critical to the future of nuclear energy. Alexey Dub, first deputy director of the Science and Innovations organization, said the approach is essential for developing next-generation reactors with service lives of up to 80 years.

"To accelerate the development and certification of new structural materials, we are building a set of rapid production and testing methods, including fast assessments of radiation resistance. Among the most important areas are AI-driven materials discovery, the creation of standardized materials databases, and a focus on advanced manufacturing technologies. These approaches can speed the introduction of new materials into next-generation reactors," Dub said.

The system will focus on creating materials with microstructures engineered at the nanometer scale.
