Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) is continuing a broad workplace modernization effort focused on digital technologies that improve employee comfort and safety across its production facilities.

In the refractory shop, crane operators no longer need to work from elevated crane cabins. Instead, they control the equipment remotely using joysticks from an office environment while monitoring operations through video displays.

Steel casters in one of the company’s converter shops have also seen significant changes. Rather than working directly beside the equipment, operators now manage the process from an air-conditioned control room. The information they need is delivered through a network of sensors, thermal imaging systems, and video cameras.

Over the near term, NLMK plans to implement about 60 additional projects designed to improve working conditions for more than 350 employees. The company intends to create new remote workstations and deploy digital assistants to help monitor production processes.
