Bolshoi Ballet Dancer's Movements Digitized for Video Game
Alena Kovaleva, a principal dancer with Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, recorded choreography at the Moscow Video Game and Animation Cluster's motion-capture studio for the computer game Tsarevna. Age of Tales. Her movements were used to shape both the combat system and the physical performance of the game's main character.

The recording session took place in a modern studio equipped with 60 OptiTrack 120W cameras. The system can capture body movements, facial expressions, and gestures with high precision and stream the data into the Unreal Engine game engine in real time. According to Moscow's Agency for Creative Industries (ACI), access to this infrastructure can accelerate production by a factor of five while reducing costs by 60 to 70 percent, making advanced motion-capture technology more accessible to Russian developers. Ballet choreography places unusual demands on capture equipment, requiring flawless tracking of pirouettes, jumps, and rapid shifts in movement. The studio's dense camera array allowed Alena Kovaleva's motion and rhythm to be transferred accurately into the digital environment.
ACI said the facility has no equivalent in Russia or the Commonwealth of Independent States in terms of equipment. Six integrated capture systems allow simultaneous recording of a full performance configuration, including body movements, finger motion, and facial expressions.
