Russia to Equip Teachers With Locally Made Digital Tablets

The devices, running on a domestic operating system, mark another step in the country’s push toward a fully digital education system.

The Russian government will subsidize the purchase of tablets for teachers across public and municipal schools starting in 2026, according to the Ministry of Digital Development. The new devices will operate on a Russian-built operating system, providing internet access, integration with national education platforms, and tools for organizing lessons.

Building the Digital Classroom

Funding will be distributed to each region based on the number of teachers. The initiative is part of Russia’s broader “Digital Transformation of Education” strategy, which aims to create a unified online ecosystem for schools by 2030.

That national plan includes developing a centralized digital content library, a recommendation system to tailor materials for individual students, and AI-powered assistants to support teachers and parents. Some of these technologies are already being tested in pilot regions.

For Russia’s education system, the teacher’s desk is about to get an upgrade — and it comes with a touchscreen.
