Russian Airports Go High-Tech with Smart Infrastructure

Ahead of the opening of Gelendzhik’s new airport, engineers rolled out a smart telecom infrastructure tailored to the building’s unique design and signal interference challenges.

To support the launch of the new airport in Gelendzhik, Russian mobile operator MTS has completed the deployment of a state-of-the-art telecommunications system. The solution was engineered to accommodate the architectural layout and mitigate radio signal interference, according to the local tech outlet 93.ru.

The project includes 60 directional and omnidirectional antennas supporting three bands of 4G/LTE service, ensuring reliable connectivity and high-speed internet access for passengers, staff, and airport operations.

MTS CEO Inessa Galaktionova stated that the company is actively modernizing telecom infrastructure along the Black Sea coast:

“We have completely overhauled 350 kilometers of transport infrastructure, which has significantly boosted network performance. This year, the transition to 4G continues in the Krasnodar Territory, improving mobile service quality for both residents and visitors.”

The initiative is part of a broader national strategy to integrate advanced digital technologies into Russia’s communications infrastructure, enhancing both comfort and safety across key public facilities.
