Russian Alt OS Adds Automatic Two-Factor Authentication Setup
The solution increases the security level of workstations.
Basalt SPO and Aktiv have confirmed compatibility between the Rutoken Logon (secure login tool) for Linux and Alt Rabochaya Stantsiya (Alt Workstation) 11 and Alt Rabochaya Stantsiya K (Alt Workstation K) 11. The software allows organizations to deploy two-factor authentication for both local and domain accounts in the Alt operating system environment without complex manual configuration.
Authentication can be performed using a certificate stored on a hardware token or Rutoken (hardware security token) smart card. For organizations without a public key infrastructure (PKI), an alternative option is available based on a strong password generated according to predefined rules. This approach makes it possible to roll out two-factor protection across different IT environments, including isolated and distributed systems.
Designed for Any Environment
The Alt workstation operating systems support GNOME and KDE desktop environments, include a suite of office applications, and are compatible with software listed in the Russian Ministry of Digital Development’s register, as well as hardware certified by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Alt Workstation 11 also supports GOST-compliant cryptography in OpenSSL, enabling the creation of security certificates based on Russian encryption standards.
Compatibility between products from Aktiv and Basalt SPO simplifies the deployment of two-factor authentication and strengthens workstation security. The infrastructure can be managed using Alt Domen (Alt Domain), a software suite designed for centralized access management and group policy control, which also supports smooth migration from both foreign and Russian operating systems.
