Russians Double Use of Fast Payment System in 2025

SBP transfers surged in Q1, with over 4 billion transactions worth 22 trillion rubles—making fee-free transfers a part of everyday life.

Russia’s Fast Payment System (SBP) has seen explosive growth since the beginning of 2025. According to the Bank of Russia, citizens conducted approximately 4.1 billion transactions totaling over 22 trillion rubles in Q1—nearly double the figures from the same period in 2024, when 2.5 billion transfers worth 10.5 trillion rubles were recorded.

Private banks confirm the trend. Russian Standard Bank reported that the volume of online SBP transactions nearly doubled year-over-year, with a corresponding 11% increase in the number of transactions. VTB noted that 80% of its customers now use the Fast Payment System.

In Q1 2025, the average user made 29 money transfers and 17 payments using SBP. The most common use case: moving funds between accounts at different banks. Users value the fact that these interbank transactions are commission-free.

Survey data shows that 40% of Russians use SBP several times a week, and 68% use the self-transfer feature to move money between their own accounts at different banks. The average SBP transaction in spring 2025 was 14,300 rubles—up from 10,100 rubles a year earlier.
