Michael Michie: Trust in Artificial Intelligence Starts With Transparency
International delegations from 120 countries continue their work at the Second Global Digital Forum in Moscow. Participants include digital infrastructure experts and developers of AI-powered solutions.

Michael Michie, CEO and founder of Kenyan company Eversc Technology, told the IT Russia media platform what is needed to build trust in generative models and “smart systems,” and why countries need to retain control over their own data:
– We came from Kenya, and we work on developing artificial intelligence infrastructure.
To maintain trust in AI amid the risks associated with the technology’s development, both security and transparency are essential. For people and organizations to make informed decisions about software and hardware, they need to understand how the models they use work. Open-source code allows people to examine how these models are built and helps build trust in the technology.
Digital sovereignty is equally important. Achieving it requires data sovereignty, technological independence, and respect for copyrights and trademarks. Every solution must also have an alternative. If one technology exists, there should be another, so users and countries retain a choice.
It is also important to reach an agreement that data must remain within a country’s jurisdiction. This requires reliable partners who respect a country’s digital sovereignty, as well as domestic technical capabilities that allow the country to control how information is stored and processed.
