Nenad Badovinac: Russia and Serbia Can Work Together to Promote Responsible AI Use

At the 2nd Global Digital Forum in Moscow, representatives from different countries are signing agreements to cooperate on digital technologies.

One important area of international cooperation is the responsible use of artificial intelligence and raising public awareness of its potential benefits and risks. The Serbian Academic Initiative for the Safe Use of Artificial Intelligence (SAVI) signed a memorandum of understanding. Nenad Badovinac, the initiative’s president, spoke to the IT Russia media platform about prospects for partnering with Russian organizations.

– Signing this memorandum is important for our organization, which focuses on artificial intelligence. Our primary concern is people in Serbia, but our ability to make a difference is limited if we don’t work with organizations in other countries. Partnering with Russia will allow us to address the ethical aspects of AI use together and work more effectively toward our shared goals.

People are wary of using artificial intelligence because they don’t always understand how it works or what risks it poses. Parents, in particular, are concerned about potential abuses that could affect children. That’s why we hold roundtable discussions to raise public awareness and promote a culture of responsible AI use.

The memorandum opens up opportunities for practical cooperation. We’ll be able to invite Russian academics to our roundtables and hold joint online meetings. Artificial intelligence is evolving very quickly, so it’s important not to put this work off. I hope we can organize our first joint roundtable before the end of the year and begin discussing these issues.
