Russian tech company Yandex has developed a logistics routing system that has helped carriers reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30%, the company’s press service said.
The platform combines optimization algorithms, artificial intelligence, and geospatial technologies. Its planning engine distributes orders among couriers within minutes and selects optimal routes based on up to 300 parameters – from traffic conditions to warehouse schedules. According to the developers, the system is built on a simulated annealing approach capable of analyzing large datasets and solving complex optimization problems.

The Yandex Marshrutizatsiya (Yandex Routing) service is used by companies involved in transportation and delivery across sectors ranging from retail to healthcare. Yandex also uses the platform to manage logistics between its distribution centers. Optimized routing helps balance workloads across vehicles and reduce idle time. By spending less time on the road, couriers contribute to lower emissions.
