MegaFon has tested a private 5G network in its laboratory. Such networks are most commonly deployed at large industrial and mining facilities. The tests demonstrated readiness to migrate private LTE networks to 5G using Russian-made base stations.

A key stage of the testing involved integrating Russian equipment with foreign-made base stations. The tests confirmed that equipment from different vendors could operate seamlessly within a single network while maintaining uninterrupted connectivity. MegaFon also tested the compatibility of software platforms for telemetry and remote monitoring, as well as systems for transportation and logistics management.

“MegaFon is systematically moving toward 5G deployment and backing that work with real-world testing,” said Andrey Konstantinov, Director of Strategic Infrastructure Planning at MegaFon. “Even before receiving regulatory approvals, we are testing a 5G architecture built around Russian-made base stations in our own laboratory. We have completed a full cycle of laboratory testing covering different scenarios for migrating between generations of radio access technology.”
