“Technical checks of the Elektro-L No. 5 hydrometeorological spacecraft have been completed in geostationary orbit at its 76 degrees east longitude position. The satellite has successfully joined the eponymous space system,” the state corporation said in a statement.

Russia's orbital hydrometeorological constellation now consists of four spacecraft: Elektro-L No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5. All four are designed for meteorological observations. Elektro-L No. 5 and No. 3 are currently operating simultaneously at 76 degrees east longitude.

Roskosmos said it is considering moving Elektro-L No. 3 to 14.5 degrees west longitude, where Elektro-L No. 2 is currently operating after already exceeding its planned operational lifetime.
