Polytechnic Students Develop Test Rig for 3D-Printed Compressor Parts
At the Ostrov inzhenerov (Island of Engineers) intensive program at the Kronstadt Engineering Center, a team from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University presented a modular test rig for 3D-printed screw compressor components.

During the in-person stage, 10 teams representing 18 universities from 13 Russian cities presented and defended their projects before an expert panel. A total of 79 students and four mentors completed the program.
The test rig developed by SPbPU students makes it possible to test rotor and discharge-port geometries during the design stage and quickly evaluate several rotor designs before a component enters serial production. Its modular design minimizes the time needed to swap components, while additive manufacturing speeds up production of the rotors and compressor housing.
