An advanced environmental monitoring system has been installed at a major Russian forestry and pulp-and-paper complex, according to the press service of AFK Sistema. The Sokol Pulp and Paper Mill in Russia’s Vologda Oblast has deployed the MTS Ecomonitoring platform. The fully domestic solution combines a network of automated sensors with software powered by artificial intelligence and predictive analytics.

A Digital Twin for Forecasting

Sensors record air quality at the facility every 20 minutes and transmit the data to a central system. The software effectively creates a “digital twin” of the mill, analyzing incoming data and forecasting potential environmental risks. This approach enables more efficient production management. Company representatives described the deployment as a shift to a new level of environmental responsibility.

As Vyacheslav Mutyev, the forestry holding’s director for environmental affairs, noted, the platform provides an objective picture of the plant’s environmental impact, which is critical for improving technological processes. The company plans to roll out the system at a similar facility in the Republic of Karelia in the near future.
