Researchers at Novosibirsk State Medical University have developed Russia’s first smart system for monitoring infant jaundice treatment at home. The device combines a therapeutic lamp used to treat the condition with a sensor that continuously monitors the baby’s condition.

The system consists of a stand with a display screen, a mobile application, and a miniature sensor attached to the infant’s forehead that does not interfere with sleep. Unlike existing solutions, where the treatment lamp and measurement device operate separately, the new system combines both functions within a single platform equipped with an alert feature that activates if health indicators deviate from normal levels.

According to the developers, the technology could make recovery more comfortable for infants while also easing pressure on healthcare staff. Phototherapy is currently the standard treatment for neonatal jaundice. However, when treatment takes place at home, parents usually need to arrange regular blood tests. The sensor removes the need for frequent blood sampling by continuously tracking the child’s condition.
