Agricultural drones will be deployed in the Mozhaysk municipal district of the Moscow Region to combat Sosnovsky’s hogweed, an invasive and hazardous plant species. The unmanned aerial systems will spray affected land plots with specialized treatment compounds.

According to agrarians, the use of advanced technology will not only improve the efficiency of the campaign against the dangerous weed, but also significantly accelerate it. Operating a single agricultural drone requires only two people. The systems can also treat areas that are physically inaccessible to workers using backpack sprayers.

The first drone flights are expected to begin after May 25. Local authorities have already prepared and approved the necessary operational maps and notified residents about the upcoming work.

Sosnovsky’s hogweed is a large perennial plant that can grow up to three meters tall. Its sap contains toxic compounds that can cause severe skin burns upon contact, especially when combined with sunlight exposure.
