Moscow’s AI System for Detecting “Broken Hearts” Helps Save Tens of Thousands of Lives

An intelligent health-monitoring platform identifies people at risk of cardiovascular crises up to two years before they occur.

Moscow has reported striking results from its AI-driven cardiovascular risk detection system, which analyzes electronic medical records to flag patients in danger of developing serious heart and vascular conditions. According to Deputy Mayor Anastasia Rakova, the system has already identified about 100,000 working-age residents at high risk of suffering a cardiac or vascular event within the next two years.

“We used a generative AI model and trained it on large datasets of people who had died from circulatory diseases,” Rakova explained. “This helped reveal hidden patterns that preceded fatal outcomes. Then we applied those markers to electronic health records of Moscow residents — and found more than 100,000 individuals with similar risk factors.”

Personalized Prevention

The system continuously tracks around 30,000 patients at a time, integrating data from medical appointments, test results, prescriptions, and even ambulance calls. Based on this information, each high-risk patient receives a personalized prevention plan — from additional screenings to treatment adjustments.

Moscow’s health department now plans to scale the system across the entire city healthcare network, expanding early detection and prevention efforts that could help save tens of thousands of lives in the coming years.
