Russia Launches Its First Digital Shipyard
The project is being implemented at the Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant.
Russia’s first digital shipyard is now operating at the Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant in Karelia. It was launched as part of the first phase of the plant’s modernization. All key processes are now integrated within a single digital environment, allowing the shipyard to track every stage of production, from design and materials procurement to vessel construction.
The modernization is continuing. The Russian government has allocated 1.95 billion rubles (about $23 million) from its reserve fund for the second phase. Robotic equipment is now being installed, while the slipway—the inclined structure used to launch vessels—is being upgraded.
“Karelia is changing the very structure of its economy today. Alongside the industries traditionally associated with the republic, shipbuilding, robotics and new technology-driven manufacturing are developing here. I want to thank the regional team for this work. We can see that the region is actively using federal support tools and turning them into concrete projects,” said Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov.
