Russian regions are increasingly using artificial intelligence to diagnose a range of diseases. In the Krasnoyarsk region, all digital fluorography units have been equipped with AI modules and software to detect tuberculosis.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, chest scans are now automatically transmitted to the regional medical telecommunications system, where they are analyzed by AI. If the system flags a potential pathology, the case is forwarded to radiologists at the regional tuberculosis clinic.

“The program’s role is to highlight changes identified in the scans for physicians. Radiologists and TB specialists review the cases promptly, usually within one day, and issue a conclusion. They determine whether further diagnostics or specialist consultations are needed,” the ministry said.

A System-Level Approach

The system allows physicians to identify the patient and their registered clinic, as well as determine where the scan was performed. Results are delivered to the patient’s personal account on the Gosuslugi (State Services portal) and are also sent to the patient’s primary care physician.

According to regional Health Minister Alexey Konovalenko, this systematic use of AI is making healthcare more accessible and efficient. Advanced technologies have improved both the accuracy and speed of diagnostics. Since the start of 2026, the service has helped identify 23 patients in the region with suspected chest-related conditions.

Earlier, authorities in the Perm region also reported successful deployment of advanced AI algorithms in healthcare. These technologies are used to analyze medical images, including fluorograms and mammograms.
