Tambov University Develops AI Rehabilitation System for Patients With Severe Injuries

Researchers at Tambov State Technical University have developed an adaptive neurorehabilitation system called NeyroStep designed to help patients regain walking ability after severe injuries and amputations.

The system is intended for patients recovering from severe injuries and limb amputations.

The platform is built around markerless AI tracking technology, which allows computer vision systems to analyze patient movement without attaching sensors to the body. Artificial intelligence generates what developers call a “digital shadow” of the patient — a mathematical gait model that helps doctors measure rehabilitation progress. The system also includes a VR therapy module, where immersive environments are used to help patients overcome psychological barriers and phantom pain by simulating safe conditions for taking their first steps with a prosthetic limb.

Researchers said all software powering the platform was developed domestically, ensuring that further development of the project does not depend on foreign technology suppliers.
