Moscow’s municipal services are increasingly deploying homegrown technologies and expanding their own production capabilities. The approach is designed to reduce operating expenses and shorten project timelines, while improving quality, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his Telegram channel.

Smart Grid Hub and Mobile Energy Storage

One example is PAO Rosseti Moskovskiy Region, whose engineers developed a compact digital transition hub to connect overhead and underground 110 kV power lines. When part of a transmission line runs underground and another segment remains overhead, such a hub becomes essential for safe and efficient integration.

The company has also introduced a mobile energy storage unit mounted on a truck chassis. It can supply electricity during emergencies or charge electric vehicles on-site. Another innovation is the Avtomatizirovannaya Sistema Upravleniya Mobilnymi Brigadami (Automated Mobile Crew Management System), a software platform designed to boost productivity by strengthening oversight of field teams, reducing paperwork, and structuring operational data. With the help of an AI service, the time required to register equipment defects has been cut by 75%, the period needed to process permits has dropped by 30%, and overall lost working time has declined by 35%.

Water Monitoring and Broken Streetlights

Employees of AO Obedinennaya Energeticheskaya Kompaniya are testing a neural network-based system to identify streetlights in need of repair. Water quality in the capital is monitored through a network of more than 500 automated control devices operating in real time. Mosvodokanal operates four water treatment plants, where modern technologies and equipment have been implemented. The company continuously evaluates new solutions to ensure reliable and high-quality water supply for residents.

At the end of last year, Moscow also unveiled an updated version of its Smart City Moscow project, a dedicated online platform showcasing the capital’s digital initiatives. The site features 111 key innovation solutions aimed at making urban life more comfortable.
