A Russian-developed system for designing high-frequency integrated circuits is being created for the Astra Linux operating system, according to the press service of Astra Group. The project is described as the country’s first import-independent electronic design automation platform.

The development team includes National Computer Corporation, Rubius, Integralnye Resheniya, and researchers from Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics. The project is coordinated by the research and production association Critical Information Systems.

Collaboration of Leading Experts

According to Elena Ivanova, director of software development at the research association, the product is expected to strengthen Russia’s technological independence in the mass production of microelectronics. She emphasised that cooperation between scientists, engineers and software developers could allow the system to compete with – and potentially surpass – existing international solutions.

Researchers at the university are developing the circuit editor and an electromagnetic simulation subsystem for microwave devices. Rubius specialists, who have extensive experience in industrial design automation systems, are integrating these research ideas into a unified software platform.

The first version of the product is expected in 2026, and a prototype has already been completed. Industrial testing is scheduled to begin in 2027. The system will first be tested at the Shokhin Scientific Production Enterprise Stok, which manufactures more than half of Russia’s microwave electronics as well as PCs and server equipment.
