Russia Launches Its First Bachelor’s Program in Applied Artificial Intelligence

Students at Novosibirsk State University will tackle real-world business challenges using cutting-edge AI tools and industry platforms.

Novosibirsk State University (NSU) has opened Russia’s first bachelor’s degree program in applied artificial intelligence, marking a major step in AI education nationwide. The inaugural class includes 176 students from 20 regions across the country.

The program blends core technical disciplines, programming, and IT project management with hands-on experience. Throughout their studies, students will work on real business cases, applying machine learning and data analytics to practical industry problems. NSU’s industrial partner, the T1 Integration Group, will provide access to its proprietary AI platforms and development tools.

A Leading Regional Tech Cluster

At the program’s opening, Elena Proforuk, head of the digital development project office of the Novosibirsk Region’s Ministry of Digital Affairs, emphasized the area’s strong reputation in IT training.

“Our key competitive advantage is highly qualified talent,” she said. “The region has built a unique synergy between education, science, and industry.”

Mikhail Knigin, executive director of T1 Integration, noted that Novosibirsk is emerging as a major IT hub. The company plans to deploy a full-cycle machine learning platform at NSU by 2026, giving students access to the same AI infrastructure used in professional development environments.

With its focus on real-world projects and deep collaboration between academia and industry, the new program positions Novosibirsk as a center for next-generation AI talent—bridging the gap between university research and business innovation.
