Russian Railways is preparing for full-scale testing of its Tsifrovaya zheleznodorozhnaya stantsiya (Digital Railway Station) project, aiming to scale up experience gained at the Chelyabinsk-Glavny marshalling yard, which served as the pilot site.

Artificial intelligence is already in active use at the station, where it plans train routing. Equipment equipped with machine vision scans trains while they are in motion, and a robot handles wagon uncoupling operations.

“Data is fed into the station’s digital twin without manual input, directly from autonomous locomotives and infrastructure monitoring systems. Currently, 19 of the 24 technical solutions developed by NIIAS are being tested under controlled operation,” the company’s press service said.

The new technologies help reduce idle time and improve labor productivity. At the same time, the modular design of the system allows for gradual deployment as each station becomes ready.
