AI Weaves the Stories of 5,000 Tyumen Residents Into a 60-Meter Mural
A 60-meter mural titled Tyumen Ornament has been unveiled in Tyumen. It is made up of patterns created by nearly 5,000 local residents with the help of a chatbot and a neural network. Their personal stories have become part of the artwork near the Church of the Savior.

Residents shared stories about their families, hobbies, and places of personal significance with a chatbot on the MAX messaging platform. A neural network then generated patterns based on images of 72 plant species native to the region. The motifs were brought together into a single composition and complemented by 32 ceramic tiles, handmade using a traditional Siberian technique. The project was launched to mark Tyumen’s 440th anniversary and Russia’s Year of Unity of the Peoples.
The ornament was a collaborative creation: each participant received a small pattern incorporating their own story. The project showed how artificial intelligence can bring personal stories together in a single urban artwork rather than replace human creativity.
