Perm-Based Company Begins Digitizing Forests With Drones
A Perm-based company, the Center for Space Technologies and Services, has purchased a professional drone equipped with a laser scanner to digitize forest inventories.
The equipment was purchased with regional support: the company received a subsidized Kreativny (Creative) microloan at an annual interest rate of 1.5%. The drone works with the ParmaSkan software, which builds a 3D model of a forest plot and uses artificial intelligence to identify the characteristics of each tree, including its coordinates, height, diameter and species.
According to the company, the approach can cut the cost of forest inventories and preparing plots for logging by 15% to 30%.
The Center for Space Technologies and Services has operated since 2012, conducting forest inventories, designing logging plots and developing geographic information systems. In 2024, the company received small technology company status, giving it access to grants and subsidized loans, the Perm Krai government said.
The assistance is provided to regional entrepreneurs as part of the national project Efficient and Competitive Economy.
