Book Vending Stations Let Readers Borrow Books Without Librarians in Perm
Perm's Municipal Library Network has introduced RFID-enabled self-service book stations that allow readers to borrow and return books without assistance from library staff.

The system was developed by RST-Invent. Borrowing or returning a book through one of the self-service stations takes 30 to 60 seconds, compared with several minutes using the traditional checkout process. The technology enables the library network to establish new service points in locations residents visit every day without leasing additional space or expanding staff. The stations can also serve as curated book displays, featuring themed collections, school reading lists, and works by literary award winners.
According to Dmitry Sazonov, Regional Director at RST-Invent, the concept brings the familiar user experience of parcel lockers and self-service kiosks into the library system while maintaining full control over the library's collection.
