In Russia, Artificial Intelligence to Build a Stock Market Index
The Moscow Exchange is preparing to launch its first AI-generated stock index, aiming to give investors a new way to assess companies and build more adaptive investment portfolios.
The index will be formed using an expanded set of indicators, based on the analysis of large-scale datasets.

The new instrument, which is expected to become available to investors in 2026, is designed to offer a new way of assessing corporate potential and to broaden opportunities for building diversified investment portfolios.
More Data, Faster Response
Unlike traditional indices, where stock selection is based on fixed criteria such as market capitalization and liquidity, the new index will be assembled by an AI algorithm. According to Viktor Zhidkov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Moscow Exchange, the system will be able to analyze large volumes of heterogeneous data, including financial statements, market dynamics, the news agenda, and other factors that usually require manual evaluation. This approach should allow the index to react more quickly to changes and identify trends that remain out of reach for conventional models.
AI Under Regulatory Oversight
The algorithm will operate within the existing framework of financial regulation, and the criteria used to form the index will remain transparent to market participants. As a result, investors will be able to use the index as a reliable benchmark and compare its performance with the IMOEX index, which currently serves as the basis for many exchange-traded instruments.
Reducing Risk
Zhidkov noted that the goal of the project is to give investors a simple way to reduce risk while gaining access to modern market analysis technologies. The new index will also serve as a real-world test, allowing the performance of artificial intelligence methods to be compared directly with traditional financial approaches.
The launch is expected to generate strong interest among market participants. Investors will be able to observe how AI applies its own market analysis model and assess how successful this innovative approach proves to be under real trading conditions.
