Russia Tests AI System to Identify Unlicensed Hotels

Russia's Ministry of Economic Development and the Federal Service for Accreditation are testing an artificial intelligence system designed to identify unlicensed accommodation providers, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexey Khersontsev said.

"To simplify regional oversight, we are actively introducing AI together with the Federal Service for Accreditation. Using the system, we analyzed properties across all Russian regions that could potentially fall into the category of unlicensed accommodation providers. We then tested the results in six regions, where officials manually reviewed every property to eliminate errors and inaccuracies in the AI's findings," Khersontsev said.

The analysis has been forwarded to regulatory authorities for follow-up inspections.

At a meeting of the classification council, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said the classification system has been operating for more than a year. The national registry now includes 30,500 accommodation providers, including hotels, campgrounds, and recreation centers, with roughly half of them being added to the registry for the first time.

According to Reshetnikov, the main challenge now is overseeing accommodation providers that continue to operate without obtaining the required classification.
