The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is expanding the use of artificial intelligence in regional governance and the social sector, regional head Aysen Nikolaev said during the first meeting of the AI Council under the head of the republic. He noted that AI is already widely used and delivering results.

“Services in the Yakut language based on generative models, a municipal employee assistant, the KiberZaschitnik (CyberGuard) project, and other developments recognized at the federal level. The next step is to move from individual projects to a comprehensive AI deployment system,” Nikolaev said, instructing officials to develop a regional AI strategy.

Implementation to Begin in May

Further work will focus on practical projects and skills development. The republic has sufficient digital infrastructure to advance AI initiatives. The regional strategy will align with federal priorities and regional policy objectives.

“Our task is to make AI technologies understandable and accessible for the residents of the republic,” Nikolaev emphasized.

The document will be drafted by government representatives, along with experts and technology partners. It is expected to be approved in March, with implementation scheduled to begin in May.
