AI Has Scanned 3 Million Medical Records in Russian Region to Support Doctors

Russia is accelerating the use of AI in healthcare, with new systems helping physicians process millions of patient records and detect early signs of disease.
The Perm region of Russia is leading the country’s charge to bring advanced IT tools into the healthcare system. Local clinics and hospitals are already using artificial intelligence to read and analyze medical records, chest X-rays, and mammograms. The tech rollout spans four digitalization projects across the region.
This year alone, AI has scanned more than 3 million patient files in the Perm region, assisting doctors with patient histories and treatment decisions. The neural network highlights possible pathological changes and acts as a digital assistant for medical staff. A fourth project was launched in 2025 to include AI-driven interpretation of CT scans—particularly for thoracic imaging.
The initiative is part of a national healthcare digitalization strategy, which runs through 2030 and focuses on promoting homegrown technologies. Experts predict that by the end of the decade, Russia’s use of AI in medicine will grow sixfold.
The future of Russian medicine may soon be defined by digital assistants, automated clinical summaries, and AI-powered tools for quality control and diagnostics—bringing machine intelligence directly into the doctor’s workflow.
