Moscow Metro Is to Switch to Russia's Astra Linux Operating System
The operating system will be installed on thousands of devices over the next several years.

The Moscow Metro is moving its equipment to Astra Linux, a Russian operating system developed by Astra Group. The multi-year project will cover thousands of devices, including ticket vending machines, information kiosks, and ticket office terminals.
According to the metro operator, Astra Linux was selected because it best met the metro's requirements for reliability, security, functionality, and performance.
"Ensuring passenger safety and the reliable operation of the city's transportation system are the key priorities set by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Leading Russian technology companies are helping us achieve these goals. For several years now, we have successfully switched to domestically developed technologies across a growing number of systems to make our transport IT infrastructure fully independent of external factors," said Maksim Liksutov, Moscow's deputy mayor for transport and industry.
The company noted that the Moscow Metro obtained licenses for several versions of the Russian operating system last year.
