The city of Nizhnekamsk is set to launch a digital platform for managing public transportation as part of a pilot project that could later be expanded to other municipalities across Russia's Republic of Tatarstan.

Nizhnekamsk will introduce a digital public transit management system under an agreement signed by the municipal administration, Yandex Transport, and Sotsialnaya karta (Social Card) during the INNOPROM 2026 international industrial exhibition.

The platform is designed to improve the performance of public transit operators. It will enable transportation officials to monitor buses and trams in real time, oversee contractors' compliance with service obligations, and analyze operational data to support decision-making. The project also includes the installation of fare validators on all buses and trams.

Another part of the modernization program will see new electronic displays installed at transit stops, allowing passengers to view accurate real-time arrival information.

Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan, has instructed the republic's Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure to pilot the project in Nizhnekamsk. If the initiative proves successful, officials plan to expand it to other municipalities across the republic.
