Plants in YNAO and KhMAO Adopt Smart Tags for Equipment Monitoring

Gas processing plants in YNAO and KhMAO operated by Gazprom Neft – Khantos and SiburTyumenGaz have introduced smart digital tags for mobile inspections. The rollout has accelerated staff routes, improved equipment monitoring transparency, enhanced safety, and moved operations further into a digital environment.

The tags are placed next to equipment and pipelines. When scanned with a work device, they instantly display what equipment is being inspected, which parameters to check, and what actions may be required. The system automatically records each inspection.

At the Gubkinsky plant, the tags are color-coded by department, making navigation easier across the site. The tag casings are produced on-site using 3D printing, helping protect them from extreme cold, moisture, and mechanical damage typical of Arctic conditions. Some tags are integrated with the plant’s weather station — scanning them provides real-time weather data and helps staff select appropriate protective gear.

At the Belozerny plant, the approach goes further. “We proposed combining information for two departments into a single physical tag,” said Andrey Fokin, a lead automation engineer. This reduced the number of tags across facilities and simplified navigation for staff.
