Russian Airport Deploys Bird Tracking and Forecasting System
Sheremetyevo unveils digital tools to improve flight safety

Sheremetyevo International Airport CEO Mikhail Vasilenko presented a set of advanced digital solutions used at the airport during a meeting with Deputy Transport Minister Vladimir Poteshkin and Alexandra Kislyakova, head of the Transport Ministry’s Situational Information Center.
One of the solutions is a methodology for calculating the capacity of sterile zones in airport terminals. It determines how many passengers can comfortably remain in secure areas at the same time and sets thresholds for restricting access for departing passengers when needed.
Monitoring and Control
Another development is a geoinformation monitoring system for airport operations. It enables real-time management of the airfield and task allocation among ground vehicles, provides a comprehensive operational overview, collects data on equipment and resources, and tracks bird movements while predicting their appearance.
Earlier, another Russian airport, Pulkovo, successfully tested ORNI, an automated bird strike prevention system that monitors bird activity around the airfield and helps reduce the risk of collisions with aircraft.
