Russian Scientists Develop Software to Assess Cable Quality

New tool aims to prevent defects in manufacturing processes

Electrical engineering researchers at Samara Polytechnic have patented software designed for the cable industry, the university’s press service said.

The team, led by Vladimir Kozlovsky, доктор технических наук and head of the Department of Theoretical and General Electrical Engineering, developed a system that continuously analyzes the stability of production processes.

The researchers integrated a Shewhart control chart into the software – a tool that tracks how process parameters change over time. This makes it possible to identify values that deviate from target levels.

Detecting “Unhealthy” Process Fluctuations

The chart is configured to register the characteristics of each product, providing a dynamic view of manufacturing quality. It flags only deteriorations, which significantly reduces the workload for specialists by sending alerts only when deviations occur.

The university added that the software can operate using both real production measurement data and simulated datasets, where samples with predefined characteristics are generated to model hypothetical production scenarios.

Earlier, engineers at the Moscow Aviation Institute developed an automated machine for arranging wires into cable harnesses.
