Researchers at the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas have developed new software designed to optimize the performance of small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants. The system can increase LNG output by about 7% while reducing energy consumption by 5%. It also significantly lowers gas losses during production.

"The development is more than a calculation tool. It is a digital simulation model - a kind of process tomography – that identifies bottlenecks in production operations, recommends targeted improvements, and serves as a decision-support system for plant operators," explained Roman Barashkin, associate professor in the Department of Process Automation at Gubkin University.

The software has already demonstrated its effectiveness under real operating conditions. According to the developers, it is now fully ready for deployment at larger LNG production facilities as well.
