SIBUR Uses Artificial Intelligence to Design New Polymers
SIBUR’s research centers are using artificial intelligence to control material properties across the entire production cycle, from formulation design to anti-counterfeiting protection.

The company’s SIBUR PoliLab research centers apply AI tools to manage material characteristics at every stage of production. Instead of manually reviewing thousands of patents and scientific papers, researchers rely on language models that analyze global scientific data and help identify promising directions, allowing the company to move ahead of competitors rather than catch up.
Using large datasets collected throughout polymer production—from synthesis to finished products—the team builds predictive models. One example is a formulation generator for polypropylene films: engineers input target characteristics, and the model calculates the optimal composition and thickness of each layer.
At the same time, the company, together with the Higher School of Economics, has opened enrollment for a master’s program titled Novye polimernye materialy i neftekhimiya (New Polymer Materials and Petrochemistry), with classes set to begin in September 2026.
