Moskvich, Atom and China’s HangzhouShibao to Develop Steer-by-Wire System

Moskvich, electric vehicle developer Atom and China’s HangzhouShibao signed a memorandum at the Eastern Economic Forum to develop a Steer-by-wire (SbW) steering system for Moskvich vehicles.

SbW technology eliminates the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the wheels: The driver's actions are converted into electronic signals that determine the steering angle through a control unit. This allows the steering system to be more deeply integrated with the vehicle's electronics and driver-assistance systems, including autonomous driving at Level 4.

Under the agreement, Atom will serve as the technology partner and handle the system's development, calibration and preparation for certification, while HangzhouShibao will supply the SbW system and adapt it for Moskvich vehicles.

“The project brings together the expertise of three teams: Moskvich employess, Atom's technological expertise and HANGZHOU SHIBAO's experience. At the first stage, we will jointly develop the technical requirements, conduct the necessary tests and determine the optimal architecture for the solution to be used in future vehicles under the brand,” said Elena Frolova, general director of the Moskvich plant.
