Omnissa Launches Secure Browser-Based Access to Enterprise Applications

Omnissa, a developer of virtual desktop solutions, has announced secure browser-based access to enterprise applications.

The company's approach allows organizations to bring together SaaS services, web applications and virtualized applications in a single catalog while applying security policies directly within the browser session.

The solution is intended for scenarios including contractors and temporary staff, access from personal devices and users whose work primarily relies on web applications. Security controls make it possible to restrict copying, file uploads and downloads, and the transfer of sensitive data to external services, including public generative AI systems. The solution can also take device status into account and either require additional authentication or block access if the device does not comply with company policies.

"The approach proposed by Omnissa is not new. It has long been considered one of the options for remote access," said Sergei Khalyapin, director for new markets and technology partnerships at Termidesk.

According to Khalyapin, the solution is an attractive, less resource-intensive option for providing access to contractors, partners and temporary employees, provided their work is limited to web applications. At the same time, he noted that a secure browser cannot be considered a universal replacement for VDI. It is suitable for a limited range of use cases but does not address every requirement, such as providing a fully isolated desktop environment, running legacy Windows applications, centrally managing computing resources or working with complex enterprise software.
