Pervouralsk Novotrubny Plant in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region has commissioned new high-precision equipment in its repair and mechanical workshop. The installation is a modern vertical turning lathe with numerical control capable of machining parts up to 3.5 meters in diameter and 2 meters in height.

The machine’s control system automatically selects optimal machining parameters for each alloy and changes cutting tools as needed. This speeds up the transition between roughing and finishing operations, according to industry outlet Ritm Mashinostroeniya.

Shift to In-House Production

The equipment is configured automatically, ensuring that components meet specified geometric parameters. The installation has enabled the plant to move toward in-house production of complex tooling and spare parts. This allows the facility to fulfill internal orders more quickly while maintaining the quality of its pipe output.

“Expanding our in-house capabilities for manufacturing spare parts allows us to quickly supply pipe-rolling units with critical components, significantly increase the speed of replacing tooling and worn assemblies, and minimize downtime in core workshops,” said plant managing director Vladimir Toporov.

Earlier reports said an automotive plant in the Kaluga region had implemented a system to manage maintenance operations.
