Authorities in the Chelyabinsk Region plan to scale up the use of agricultural drones for crop treatment. Last year, spraying drones were used across 8,000 hectares of farmland, with the area expected to increase to 9,000 hectares this summer, according to the regional agriculture ministry.

Agricultural drones offer several advantages. They enable highly precise field treatment through satellite navigation and smart spraying systems, helping reduce water and chemical use, limit losses, and maintain consistent quality. At the same time, drones can complete tasks much faster than traditional methods.

In the Chelyabinsk Region, UAV operators are trained at several institutions. The South Ural State Agrarian University has launched a program focused on unmanned aerial systems, where students learn both piloting and equipment operation. The South Ural Agro-Industrial College also runs its own training program.
