Russia Unveils AI-Powered Laser Welding Platform for Heavy Industry

A new AI-based laser welding system developed in Russia automates precision control in real time and is already proving its value in railcar and shipbuilding industries.

The Borlas Group, part of Softline’s corporate family, has introduced a Russian-made solution for laser welding that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning models to automate the entire welding process. The system’s neural network controls laser parameters, adjusts material feed in real time, and monitors environmental conditions to ensure consistently high-quality welds. It also performs self-diagnostics and assesses the finished seam for structural integrity.

This technology is already being used in production settings. At a railcar manufacturing plant, for example, engineers successfully tested the platform to weld metallic sheets for train car exteriors. The welds met high standards for quality and dimensional accuracy, and the process was tracked in real time using a 3D model of the object. The system also generated detailed technical reports.

In addition to rail manufacturing, the AI welding system is being adopted by Russia’s shipbuilding industry.
