Russian Telecom Operator Will Reimburse Victims of Fraud — Backed by AI

A Russian telecom company has pledged to refund customers targeted by scammers, counting on its multi-layered AI-driven fraud protection to stop theft before it happens.

A major Russian telecom operator is taking an unprecedented step: if a customer falls victim to phone scammers, the company will reimburse the stolen funds. That promise comes with a catch — the company is confident its new multi-level cybersecurity system will prevent such incidents from occurring in the first place.

The heart of the defense is a domestic technology platform called "Digital Immunity." It’s designed to filter out unwanted calls and identify fraudulent behavior with high precision. Spoofed numbers and those flagged for spam are blocked before they reach the user. Even if a customer proceeds to answer a suspicious call, the system’s anti-fraud algorithms can intervene mid-call, pause the conversation, and block any money transfer deemed suspicious.

For now, the fraud protection system — complete with a money-back guarantee — is only available in Russia’s Sverdlovsk Region. Its success there will determine whether it rolls out nationwide.
