Arkhangelsk Region is rolling out an alternative navigation system for buses that helps track vehicles when satellite signals are disrupted, regional governor Aleksandr Tsybulskiy said.

The system uses a network of geostationary markers developed by specialists at Arkhangelskiy Telekommunikatsionnyy Tsentr (Arkhangelsk Telecommunications Center).

“The pilot project was successfully tested on Route 144, which runs between Arkhangelsk and Novodvinsk. Throughout September, 10 buses operated daily under dual monitoring. Monitoring results confirmed that 99.9% of scheduled trips were completed,” Tsybulskiy said.

The governor also said a decision had already been made to expand the system to other routes. Two bus operators have applied to participate in the project and are set to receive the new system.

“This will improve safety and make bus dispatching more precise and responsive,” Tsybulskiy said.
