MMK to Send Blast Furnace Emissions Data to Rosprirodnadzor

Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) is completing commissioning work on automated emissions monitoring systems at the casting floors of Blast Furnaces No. 9 and 10. Once certified, the systems will automatically transmit emissions data to Rosprirodnadzor, Russia’s environmental watchdog.

In 2025, MMK commissioned 35 such systems and verified data transmission. They operate in the sintering, blast furnace, basic oxygen steelmaking and electric steelmaking shops, as well as the sinter mix preparation shop. The systems cover at least 70% of emissions sources, as required by law. MMK plans to commission and certify six more systems by July 2027.

“MMK is steadily reducing its environmental impact. We were the first Russian steelmaker to meet legal requirements for equipping emissions sources with automated monitoring systems. The phased modernization we have carried out over many years has significantly improved environmental conditions in Magnitogorsk,” said Pavel Shilyaev, CEO of MMK PJSC.
