In Russia, a “Benefit Calculator” Is to Help Automate Logistics

The domestic software automates bid evaluation using a minimal-concessions method and produces a final contract price.

A logistics Kalkulyator Vygody (Benefit Calculator) has been developed at South Ural State University, the university’s press office said.

The tool is designed to help logistics companies calculate the business impact of robots and automation systems, including revenue growth, cost reductions, and payback periods. When generating forecasts, the software takes a company’s specific business profile into account.

According to the university, the payoff from logistics automation varies widely depending on the nature of shipments, meaning there is no one-size-fits-all formula. The import-substituting system models scenarios for a specific company, its routes, and capacity utilization to deliver a more accurate forecast.

Scientific Novelty of the Development

The university added that the project is also notable for establishing a precise mathematical relationship between the number of freight bids reviewed and the final contract price.

The software “explains” exactly how much revenue will increase and how costs will decline if logistics processes are automated.

“In every transport company, employees track a certain number of freight bids. On average, a logistics specialist manually reviews two or three offers (up to five), then selects the best price and signs a transport contract. Our import-substituting program models this process at a much larger scale, automates it using the minimal-concessions method, and independently determines the final contract price,” the university said.
